The preferred supplier system now prevalent in the U.S. has not served its purpose. The way medical insurance worked twenty years ago was that you'd find your own supplier, and your insurance would pay (or reimburse) 80% of the purchase price, after an annual deductbile is met. This deductible applied to all covered medical expenses. The fact that a "preferred" supplier is asking $1200 for a machine that I can buy for $700 (with a prescription) indicates a complete failure of this system.
